Physical therapy is a great help for all sorts of conditions and injuries. Whether your injury or condition is trauma-related, inherited, or related to structural problems, physical therapy can help your body recover by alleviating pain and restoring complete range of motion. If you live in Jersey City, NJ or the surrounding area and are in need of physical therapy, our friendly and compassionate staff at Harborside Sport & Spine will be pleased to set up an appointment for you to see one of our physical therapists.

When should I get physical therapy?

If you are dealing with an injury or with pain that refuses to go away, and that significantly affects your functional mobility, you probably need physical therapy. A physical therapist can evaluate your physical situation, as well as provide a customized treatment plan with exercises to help your body function properly again. Physical therapy can help many different areas of your body, including: back, hips, knees, hands and arms, neck, and more.

What should I expect from physical therapy?

During your first visit to Harborside Sport & Spine, we will go over your complete medical history so that we can understand the journey your body has had throughout your life. This review will help us know what conditions or injuries you are more susceptible to, and can also give us an inside look into why you are dealing with certain issues.

Once we have taken the initial steps to get to know you and your medical history, you will have a consultation with one of our physical therapists to talk about your health-related concerns and potential treatment plans, based on your goals and the expert advice of the physical therapist. After this discussion, we will examine your flexibility and posture, as well as other tests such as neurological and orthopedic exams, or X-ray studies, according to your consent.

After all of the appropriate tests and examinations have been concluded, we will go ahead with treatment. Treatment can take up to 6 months or longer depending on the severity of your injury or condition. At Harborside Sport & Spine, we adopt a three-phase treatment plan, where the first phase involves relief and initial intensive care to help you start feeling better; the second phase focuses on strengthening and corrective care to prevent further or future injury to the affected area(s); and the third phase involves wellness care for adjustments or massages as you require them.

The specific physical therapy treatment options we offer include: active range of motion, active assistive range of motion, stationary bicycles, gait or walking training, isometrics, soft tissue mobilization, posture training, stretching and flexibility exercises, and applying heat to affected areas as long as it is not a new injury.
